Holidays in Mexico!

One thing that you should know, should you ever decide to spend a holiday in Mexico OR visit Mexico during one of their holidays, is that they celebrate everything with fireworks! These aren't just simple, legal, "buy on the side of the road for 4th of July at-home" fireworks. These are the big, colorful, circular, fill-the-sky fireworks. I'm not sure where they buy them, but they use them. And when your neighbors set them off, you realize how loud they really are. We had some go off the other night & my mother-in-law thought that she had been shot. They are loud enough to make you jump out of your bed. OH, and they do them after about 9 p.m. So for our American sleep schedule, they aren't too convenient.

The major holidays here are September 16th (Mexican Independence Day), Christmas, New Years, 3 Kings Day, Mary's Birthday, & the local saint's day (each town has their own saint & their birthdays are celebrated). Contrary to popular American belief, Cinco de Mayo is not a widely celebrate holiday here. It's majorly celebrated in the town that the battle was won & maybe in some other places. Mexico, as a whole, does not celebrate it.

We are not doing anything crazy tonight. We will stay in & probably wait for the fireworks.
