Sunday afternoon service...

Derrick rents the Bible school building from a Mexican pastor named Jorge. Jorge started a drug rehab place in a not-so-good part of town. It is a place that takes in drug addicts, gives them a place to live, and a place to be ministered to. We first attended his church back in 2000, when we lived here as interns. Since then his ministry has grown and he has another church building that is much bigger. He still, however, has the smaller church building that has Sunday evening service. One of Derrick's Bible school students, Dario, was recently put in as the pastor of this church.

Dario asked Derrick to preach this past Sunday at church. First we had lunch at Dario & Cristina's house. We prepped the kids before we got there, telling them to make sure that they eat all of the food given to them. Let me just tell you, SHILOH WAS A CHAMP! He ate everything, he ate it fast, and it was awesome. The food was not bad, but it wasn't anything that he's eaten before. Abigail did OK, but there is always grace.

The church service was awesome. I'm not sure if you've ever been in a service with recovering drug addicts, but they are pretty fired up. They "amen" the loudest. They aren't the only church that does this, but I still love it...when the person preaching is reading the scripture, they read along with him, OUT-LOUD! It's so wonderful to hear.

Derrick preached and at the end the guys spent about 15 minutes just crying out to Jesus! It is such a beautiful sight and sound. OH, another plus was that the kids had a kids' class. But on top of that, Dario's wife, Cristina, offered to take my baby and watch him. WHAT?!?! A church service in Mexico without a kid in my lap? I didn't know what to do with myself. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This old man is one of Derrick's favorite people. He danced during praise and worship. It was minimal, but it was so sweet. He would do almost like a slow, ho-down jig.
